Hello, friends! It’s just your friendly, neighborhood Jimmie Maverick here and I want to talk to you about the 6th Round of your Fantasy Draft. I know it’s early, but I was just reviewing all of the players whose ADP sits between #50 and #60 and I have to say that Isaiah Crowell is far and away the absolute best choice for your fantasy team!
How is this possible? The fact is that Crowell is the best choice of a poor grouping of players. We’ll also have to see how some of the rookie Running Backs mess with this picture but there are a lot of positives when it comes to Crowell in 2017.
Crowell is entering his 4th year in the league and it is a contract year, so he is going to be motivated to perform well because it will mean a big payday for him after the season is done. Last season, playing on the worst team in the NFL, he still accumulated 952 rush yards (4.8 yards per carry) and 7 touchdowns. He also caught 40 passes (on 52 attempts, a career high) for an additional 319 yards. He has been extremely reliable since entering the league and has yet to miss a game.
This will be the second season under head coach, Hue Jackson, so he is now familiar with that system and knows the playbook. The other RB, Duke Johnson, is prolific in the passing game but doesn’t appear to be much of a threat to take carries away from Crowell.
So who else is hanging around at this point in the draft?
#50 Latavius Murray (RB, MIN). Had an uninspiring 2016 season (788 rush yards, 4.0 YPC) and is moving to a team with one of the worst offensive lines in the league. After screwing up his contract year I see him more as a Alfred Morris than a Adrian Peterson!
#51 Jonathan Stewart (RB, CAR). Injury prone and aging fast as he is now 30 years old. Gets poached by the QB (Cam Newton) for goal line touchdowns and could be usurped by a rookie (Leonard Fournette?).
#52 Jeremy Hill (RB, CIN). Had an ample opportunity to shine in 2016 with Giovani Bernard missing most of the season but failed to capitalize. Only managed 3.8 yards per carry. On the positive side, it is a contract year.
#53 Matt Forte (RB, NYJ). An aging superstar who is in the twilight of his career. Managed only 3.7 yards per carry and for some strange reason was completely uninvolved in the passing game in 2016.
#57 Eddie Lacy (RB, SEA). Has ongoing weight issues and has had a difficult time staying healthy. Now he moves into a crowded backfield in Seattle with both Thomas Rawls and CJ Prosise. I see another 3-headed monster here.
#59 Ameer Abdullah (RB, DET). Missed most of last season with a foot injury. Has not yet generated fantasy worthy numbers and has a decent alternative (Theo Riddick) to share time with.
#60 Adrian Peterson (RB, FA). Another aging superstar whose future is unknown. Managed a paltry 1.7 yards per carry in 2016 before an injury ended last season. Is there any gas left in this tank? He’s 32, by the way.
Cleveland has 99 problems but Crowell ain’t one of them. It would be nice to see some competent Quarterback play but Crowell has proved that he can play despite what his quarterback does (last season he played with 6 different QBs).
Well, there you have it! I know I sound like some deranged lunatic in the park with a bullhorn that’s bothering everyone, but I had to get this out. Fantasy is all about value and grabbing a guy that can get you 1,200 yards and 7+ touchdowns in the 6th round can really help your team win a championship!
